Recommendations:
Health Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada provide a national strategy for Canada’s health workforce who provide women’s healthcare. This strategy would include:

  • A review of current training for the workforce
  • A review of the workforce capacity
  • Research on the patient experience
  • Recommendations to improve patient care

Ensuring Clear Information on Emergency Contraception:
The effectiveness of emergency contraception shouldn't be uncertain. Advocate for clear information, especially for individuals with higher weight and BMI.

Recommendations:
Health Canada must require:

  • Emergency contraception drug companies to conduct more conclusive research that measures effectiveness for individuals based on BMIs and weights.
  • These companies to clearly indicate the effectiveness on their product information for individuals based on BMIs and weights.
  • Conclusive research and information regarding efficacy when increasing dosage for individuals with higher weight and BMI.

Health Rights for Incarcerated Women:
Incarcerated women deserve proper healthcare, including STI and pregnancy screenings. Stand with us to protect the health rights of this high-risk group.

Health Canada and Corrections Service of Canada offer pregnancy tests and STIs screening when women are first admitted into federal correctional facilities. Health Canada provide guidelines for STIs screening in all (federal and provincial) correctional facilities.

Advocating for Abortion Access and Confidentiality:
Access to abortion services should be equitable and confidential. Join us in urging the Canadian Government to ensure safe and consistent access to reproductive health services in Alberta.

Health Canada address the gap in contraception access in provinces without universal access to contraception by funding all forms of contraception including hormonal contraceptives, intrauterine devices (IUDs), condoms and emergency contraception pills.
